COUNTERFEITING, 2 THOUSANDS PAIR OF SHOES SEIZED IN FROSINONE. THE NUMBERS OF AN ITALIAN AND EUROPEAN PHENOMENON

Police seized 80 packages containing approximately 2.000 pair of counterfeit sport shoes.

FROSINONE – The very high prices of some consumer goods and the exponential growth of the e-commerce sector caused the increase in sales of counterfeit products, bringing an incalculable damage to Italian companies. According to the last Euipo report, the European Union Office that deals with intellectual property, counterfeiting in Italy causes 116 euros of loss per inhabitant each year (the european average is 116 euros). Without forgetting that the lost profit involves also a huge decrease in employment: in Europe, it’s estimated to be at least 434.701, in Italy amount to 52.705.

In Italy the sectors most affected by counterfeiting are clothing, pharmaceutical, mobile telephony, cosmetics and leather goods.

In Europe, counterfeit products are equal to 5% of the value of imports, while the lost sales amount to 100 billion euros a year. The most affected companies are the most innovative and most productive ones.

At the forefront in the fight against this phenomenon are lined up Italian police forces, especially the Guardia di Finanza and the police, who often manage to deal hard shots to counterfeiters. Just yesterday, indeed, the officers of the subsection of Frosinone Police, during the surveillance service performed along the A1 highway, have carried out a enormous seizure of counterfeit footwear.

Close to the km 624, in the area of Frosinone, the officers have checked a van with three men on board, one Italian and two Chinese, all of them living in Napoli (NA). Suspicious of the judicial precedents of the first passenger (counterfeiting of commercial products), the officers deepened the inspections, inspecting the load compartment of the vehicle. Overall, they have been found 80 packages containing approximately 2.000 pair of counterfeit sport shoes of a notorious brand. The articles were, in all likelihood, directed in the Campania’s chief town, in order to be sold in the illicit market of counterfeit trademarks. The products were seized and the three men were reported in state of freedom.
